Requirements for a Visa Run from Hanoi
- Passport valid for at least 6 months with at least 2 blank pages
- Your current Vietnam visa or exemption stamp, still valid on the day of travel (no overstay)
- A new Vietnam e-visa approved before departure, with the correct land border listed as your entry port — or a passport eligible for visa exemption
- For China routes: a valid Chinese visa, or a passport on China's visa-free list
- For Na Meo: a Laos visa arranged in advance (we do this in Hanoi); for Lao Bao: visa on arrival for eligible passports
- Cash in USD and VND for government fees; cards are not accepted at the borders
- Two passport photos (recommended)
Requirements differ by nationality and immigration history. We confirm your personal checklist before you travel.
A Visa Run is not the right option for everyone. If you have overstayed, are on a work visa tied to an employer, or have a temporary residence card, tell us first. In some cases an extension or a different visa is the better and safer route. We will tell you honestly.
Since April 2026 the official Vietnam visa fee is USD 25 for single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry up to 90 days (Circular 28/2026/TT-BTC). Overstay fines were increased under Decree 282/2025. Leaving on time matters.
