What is consular legalization?
Consular legalization is the multi-step process that confirms a public document so that another country will accept it. Since Vietnam joined the Apostille Convention on 11 September 2026, it is only needed for countries outside the Convention, for Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, and for documents the Convention does not cover.
If your destination is a Convention member, an apostille is usually quicker and cheaper.
