Laos visa-free countries: the official list

Fifteen countries have a visa exemption agreement with Laos for ordinary passport holders, covering stays of 14–30 days. This matters directly for the Hanoi → Na Meo Visa Run: if your passport is on this list, you can skip the Laos visa arrangement entirely and travel with just your Vietnam e-visa.
The official Laos visa-exemption list (ordinary passports)
Sourced from the Department of Immigration of Lao PDR's own published exemption table, which also covers diplomatic and service passports — we've filtered to ordinary (regular) passports only, since that's what applies to almost every traveller.

Commonly asked about: the United States, United Kingdom, most of the EU (outside Luxembourg), Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India, China and most other nationalities are not visa-exempt for Laos. Some hold diplomatic or service passports covered by separate agreements the Lao government also publishes — that's a different category from the ordinary-passport list above. If you don't see your country here, message us and we'll confirm what your Na Meo trip needs.
Rules that come with it
- Applies to ordinary passports only — diplomatic, service and official passports follow separate (often longer) exemption terms.
- Stay length is fixed per country (14, 15 or 30 days) and is not extendable under the exemption itself.
- This is separate from Laos's visa-on-arrival and e-visa options, which cover many more nationalities but are not the same as a full exemption.
- Entry requirements can still include a valid passport (6+ months), proof of onward travel, and sufficient funds, at the discretion of the immigration officer.
What this means for your Na Meo Visa Run
Na Meo does not issue Laos visa on arrival — normally you need a Laos visa arranged in advance, which we handle in Hanoi. But if your nationality is on the list above, that step disappears: you cross with just your Vietnam e-visa naming Na Meo as the entry port, no Laos visa or extra fee needed. If you prefer visa on arrival instead of arranging one in advance, see our Lao Bao route, which issues it at the gate for eligible passports.
We check your passport's current status before confirming any booking — policy pages like this one are a starting point, not a substitute for that check.
Not sure if your passport qualifies?
Send your nationality and we'll confirm whether you need a Laos visa for Na Meo, or recommend the right route.
